Football - We won the cup!
The winning Team
Stockton Sixth Form College’s football team are celebrating after winning the Cleveland Under-19 Division One Championship, beating their opponents in eight of their nine matches, to finish top of the table.
Stockton Sixth Form’s unstoppable run included an 8-1 rout of Middlesbrough College and they are through to the second round of the County Cup which they are defending.
Our star striker and captain Mike Roberts is also celebrating a double whammy after being named in a British Futsal side, who are playing in an international tournament in Spain. Sharpe shooter Roberts has scored 19 goals so far this season, adding to his 24 last term, and is heading to Spain through an arrangement between Middlesbrough and Transmere Futsal Clubs. Futsal is five-a-side and features a heavier, non-bouncing ball which is designed to encourage skill and control.
The winning line-up also includes target man Carl Kennedy, younger brother of current Darlington and former Boro midfielder Jason Kennedy.
The full winning squad is made up of Matt Hunt, Gary Ryder, Luke Johnson, Daniel Easby, Mike Atkinson, Joel Galley, Ross Langridge, Shane Henry, Joe Hilton, Matt Richardson, Johnny Rea, Carl Kennedy and Mike Roberts.
Manager Tom Ripley said: “The lads deserve their success because they are a very motivated and strong side.”
