What does the course consist of?
- Investigating the core components of our economic system
• The market mechanism as a means of allocating resources
• The overall performance of the economy - growth, inflation, unemployment and international trade
• Business Economics and Efficiency
• Britain in the Global Economy
- Investigating key issues such as
• Should the UK join the Euro?
• Why is unemployment in the North East so high?
• Why are there always waiting lists in the NHS?
• Why is a premier league striker so expensive?
• Does Economics provide solutions to pollution and congestion?
• Does 'Northumbria Water' put profit before consumer safety?
• What can the Government do to 'solve' our economic problems?
What are the entry requirements?
- At least 5 A* to C passes at GCSE
- Grade C or above in Mathematics is advisable
How is this course assessed?
- Both AS and A-level Economics are assessed by examinations, with one paper in January and June of each year. Examinations will be based upon multiple choice, data response and essay questions
What might this course lead on to?
- Higher Education as a specialist course or combined with other subjects
- Careers in many different areas such as management, marketing, IT, accounting, finance etc
