Why should I choose this course?

What does the course consist of?
- In the first year we will study the origins of the American Civil War and the Norman Conquest of England and will answer questions like:
• How did the issue of slavery develop in America?
• What were the differences between the northern and southern states?
• How effectively did Edward the Confessor deal with his problems as king?
• Why did William win the Battle of Hastings?
- In the second year we will study:
• Hitler and the Holocaust
• Civil Rights in the USA
- You will take part in a variety of activities, including group work and discussion, and use a wide range of resources from books and handouts to videos and the Internet
What are the entry requirements?
- At least 5 A* to C passes at GCSE, including English Language
How is this course assessed?
- AS and A-level History are assessed through a combination of coursework and examinations, each involving essay writing and source analysis
What might this course lead on to?
- History is a well regarded qualification which can lead on to many degrees, and is particularly useful as a preparation for careers which require you to think critically such as Law, Management and Journalism
