Why should I choose this course?
- I enjoy science but don’t want to specialise
- I studied Applied Science at school and want to continue with it
- I want a course with more individual work, rather than exams
- I want a practical subject, perhaps for a job as a science technician
- I really want to do science but don’t have the grades
What does the course consist of?
- Units which cover all three sciences, Chemistry, Biology and Physics
- Six modules:
• Investigating science at work
• Energy transfer systems
• Finding out about substances
• Planning and carrying out a scientific investigation
• The healthy body
• The role of the pathology department
- Lots of opportunity for practical work
- Investigative work
- Visits to places like Wilton Site and The Forensic Science Department of the University of Teesside
What are the entry requirements?
- At least 5 A* to C passes at GCSE
- Preferably one of these should be Mathematics
- You also need Core Science plus either applied or additional science
How is this course assessed?
- There are two portfolio assignments and one exam each year
What might this course lead on to?
- Progression to AS/A2 in your best single science
- Employment in science-based work, perhaps as a laboratory technician
- Higher education
