Why should I choose this course?
- I want to study the real world – physical and human
- I want to develop an understanding of many aspects of our changing world, even if I have not studied Geography at GCSE level.
What does the course consist of?
- Learning a wide range of skills, dealing with statistics, photographs, maps, videos, the internet and written material, in class and on fieldwork
- You will study topical issues in AS Geography such as Rivers and Flood Management, Population, Cold Environments and Energy
- Fieldwork includes visits to Teesdale and Chamonix in the French Alps in the first year, and to the USA in the second year.
What are the entry requirements?
- At least 5 A* to C passes at GCSE
- At least a Grade C in GCSE Geography and/or a good GCSE profile, preferably with grades C or above in GCSE English and Maths
How is this course assessed?
- AS Geography is assessed by exams in January and May of the first year
- A2 Geography is assessed by exams in January and June of the second year
What might this course lead on to?
- Well-qualified geographers have careers in many professions – marketing, personnel, accountancy, environmental and planning etc.
- Entry to a wide range of university degree courses
