Why should I choose this course?
- I want to understand the media and its products
- I want to develop a critical awareness of the society I live in
What does the course consist of?
- Analysing different media forms and understanding how they operate
- Using advanced video production facilities, excellent digital camcorders and ‘non-linear’ digital editing facilities to produce a film trailer and a popular music video
- Looking at a wide range of media products drawn from the main media forms and institutions, for example:
• TV
• Film
• Radio
• Newspapers and Magazines
• Popular Music
• Advertising
• Internet
- Visits to London to view the BBC TV Centre and the British Board of Film Classification and to the National Museum of Film and Photography at Bradford
What are the entry requirements?
- At least 5 A* to C passes at GCSE
How is this course assessed?
- In both the first year and second year, one unit is coursework and the other one is assessed by an examination. Coursework projects could include:
• Making a film trailer
• Making a popular music video, or
• Scenes for a television drama
What might this course lead on to?
- Entry to many Higher Education courses
- Any career where analytical skills and creativity are valued
