Why should I choose this course?
- I want to know more about the theatre - great writers, actors, designers and thinkers
- I enjoy both group work and individual research
- I am looking for a course which is a mixture of theory and practice
What does the course consist of?
- Studying drama texts, including one play written before 1700
- Analysing public performances - there will be several group theatre visits during the course
- Keeping a diary of productions you have seen and making notes on all aspects such as lighting, sets, sound effects and costuming
- Learning about the work of key theatrical practitioners and their influence on modern theatre
What are the entry requirements?
- At least 5 A* to C passes at GCSE
- A good grade (A* to C) in GCSE English Language is required
How is this course assessed?
- 40% of the course is practical. You will have to demonstrate individual skill in, for example, acting, and work as part of a group to present an extract from a published play
- You submit a written portfolio reflecting on the process
- One written examination unit in first year
- One written examination unit in second year
What might this course lead on to?
- A University or drama school course in Theatre Studies
- A career in the Theatre, although Theatre Studies develops interpersonal and organisational skills which are relevant to success in most careers
- Drama therapist; drama/film critic; teacher; performer
- Any job which needs good communication skills, the ability to work with others and flexibility
