2007 leavers

At 98.3%, the college pass rate for advanced level courses was once again above the national average. There were 25 subjects with 100% pass rate. Below is a sample of some of the excellent achievements of our past students.

Manleng Siu, Mark Hart, Lucy Sweeting and Zahira Ali all joined us from Grangefield School.

Manleng studied English Literature (B), Media Studies (A) and Sociology (B). A hard working and conscientious student, she is studying English Literature and History at Northumbria University.

Mark studied Applied ICT double award (A/B) and Sociology (B). He was awarded the NESIP Crest Award for work on their website and is now studying IT and Networks at Teesside University.

Lucy studied Psychology (A), Art and Design (A), English Literature (B) and History (A). She took part in the trip to New York and was a very impressive entrant in the ‘Stars in their Eyes’ competition at college. She is studying Psychology at Leeds University.

Zahira studied Sociology (B), History (C) and Religious Studies (B). She was very active in charity work and fund-raising activities, as well as helping mentor AS students with their coursework. She is studying Human Sciences at Durham University.

Elly Mitchell, Clemency Sauvary, Chris McGough, Lauren Parkinson and Emily Johnson all joined us from St Michael’s School.

Elly studied Business Studies (B), French (B) and Law (B). She took part in the French exchange and the business trip to Prague. She is studying International Business with French at Birmingham University.

Clem studied Sociology (B), Geography (C), Theatre Studies (C) and AS Critical Thinking (B). She took part in the London trip and played an active part in the planning of the college leavers’ party. She is studying Sociology at Manchester University.

Chris studied Biology (B), Chemistry (B) and Mathematics (B). He was a winner in the Royal Society of Chemistry Schools competition and acted as a mentor in both Biology and Maths. He is studying Medicine at Glasgow University.

Lauren studied Chemistry (A), Biology (A) and Mathematics (A). She has acted as a mentor in Chemistry and Maths and, after taking a gap year, will study dentistry at Newcastle University.

Emily studied Media Studies (B), Computing (B), Art & Design (A) and Mathematics (D). She took part in the trip to Disneyland in Paris and hopes for a career in films as an animator/designer. She is studying digital character animation at the University of Teesside.

Stephen Hornsey, Eleanor Walker and Andrew Lowther came to college from Ian Ramsey School.

Stephen studied Chemistry (A), Biology (A), Physics (A) and Mathematics (A). Hard-working and conscientious, he took part in the Chemistry Challenge days and is studying Biochemistry with Molecular Biology at Durham University.

Ellie studied Mathematics (A), Further Mathematics (B), Physics (A) and AS Critical Thinking (A). Whilst at college she took part in an engineering week in Newcastle, entered the Senior Maths Challenge and represented college in the University Challenge competition hosted by Durham University. She is studying Maths and Philosophy at Edinburgh University.

Andrew studied Computing (A), Physics (B) and Mathematics (B) with AS Critical Thinking (D) and Advanced Extension Awards. He took part in the trip to Disneyland in Paris and worked on a NESIP project at Durham University. He is studying Aerospace Engineering at Manchester University.

Robert Law and Christina Maroney both joined college three years ago. After taking a one-year programme to improve their qualifications, they progressed onto Advanced level courses.

Rob Law

Rob studied Media Studies (C), ICT (C) and Sociology (B). He was an active member of the student council and is studying Broadcast Journalism at Sunderland University. He hopes to be a sports journalist working in radio.

Christina studied Health and Social Care (C/C) and Psychology (B). She was always willing to help out at Open Evenings and other college events and is now studying Health Psychology at Teesside University. She hopes to become a paramedic.

Tom Reevell and Josephine Nicholas joined college from Grangefield School.

Tom studied Chemistry (B), Biology (A), Mathematics (A) and Politics (A). He took part in the trip to Washington DC, the Biology Olympiad and helped AS students as a maths mentor. He is studying Medicine at the University of Aberdeen.

Josephine studied Chemistry (A), Biology (A), Mathematics (A) and French (A) with Critical Thinking. She took part in the French exchange and the Biology Olympiad and is studying Medicine at Newcastle University.

Maria Nalubega, Matthew Carson and Anna-Maria Knibbs came to college from Our Lady and St Bede School.

Maria studied Economics (C), Chemistry (B) and Biology (B). She was part of the Young Enterprise group and took part in the college drama production. She is studying Chemistry at York University and hopes to become a research scientist.

Matthew studied Mathematics (A), Further Mathematics (A), Physics ( ), English Literature (A) and Critical Thinking. He was a maths mentor and took part in the Senior Maths Challenge and Young Enterprise scheme. He also captained the college University Challenge team. Matthew is studying Maths at Durham University and hopes to become a research mathematician.

Anna-Marie studied Art and Design (A), Design and Technology (D), Geography (C) and ICT (C). She took part in the trip to Chamonix and is now studying at Cleveland College of art and Design. She hopes to work as a graphic designer in advertising.

Marc Etherington and Sarah Varey joined us from Our Lady and St Bede School.

Marc studied Mathematics (A), Further Mathematics (A), Physics (A), English Literature (A) and AS Critical Thinking (A). He also studied for additional maths units, Advanced Extension Awards and Italian as part on the enrichment programme. He played an active part on the student council, acted as a maths mentor and represented the college on the University Challenge team. Marc is studying Physics at Durham University.

Sarah studied Chemistry (A), Mathematics (A) and French (A). She took part in the French exchange and acted as a maths mentor. She is studying Chemistry with European Studies at Manchester University.

David Rowell joined us from the Norton School. He studied Geology (C), Mathematics (B) and ICT (B). He played in the college Basketball team and after a gap year hopes to study Maths at Leeds University.

Helen Robson, Zarah Ahmed and Sascha Graham came to college from Ian Ramsey School.

Helen studied Travel and Tourism double award (B/B) and Spanish. She completed a placement working in a hotel in Barcelona as part of her course, took part in the trip to New York and the language exchange visits. She hopes to work in the airline industry and is studying International Business at Teesside University.

Zarah studied Sociology (A), Psychology (B) and English Language (B). She is now studying English Studies at Teesside University.

Sascha studied History (A), Politics (A), English Literature (A) and Psychology (A). She participated in the trips to Washington DC and Auschwitz. She is studying History and Politics at Durham University.

Abigail Catchpole, Suzanne Parkin and Joanne Lister joined us from Northfield School.

Abigail studied Psychology (B), Law (B), Sports Studies (B) and AS Critical Thinking (B). She hopes to become an educational psychologist and is studying Psychology at Northumbria University.

Suzanne studied Law (B), History (B), Sociology (A) and Business Studies (B). She took part on the London trip and is now at Glasgow University studying Business and Sociology.

Joanne studied French (C), German (C) and Business Studies (C). She took part in the German exchange and achieved an introductory Certificate in Marketing as part of the enrichment programme. She is working for the North East Chamber of Commerce in Business Administration/Accountancy.

Sukjeet Gill, Laura Cattermole and Laura Alston all came to college to study Health and Social Care.

Sukjeet achieved B/C and also studied AS Psychology (D) in her second year after successfully retaking Maths and English GCSE in her first year. She is studying Psychology at Teesside University.

Laura Cattermole joined us from Conyers School and achieved C/D and also studied Psychology (D) as part of her course. She is taking a Mental Health Nursing degree at York University.

Laura Alston came to college from Bishopsgarth School, achieved B/C, and also studied Psychology (C) and Business Studies (C). She is studying Psychology at Teesside University.

Matthew O’Brien and Samantha McLoughlin joined us from Thornaby Community School.

Matthew studied History (A), Law (A) and Government & Politics (A). A very hard-working student, he is now studying History at Newcastle University.

Sammy studied Health & Social Care (B), Psychology (B) and ICT (B). In addition, she learned how to salsa dance as part of the enrichment programme. She is at Durham University studying to be a primary school teacher.

Clare Elliman and Lewis Young came to college from the Norton School.

Clare studied French (B), English Language (B), Mathematics (D) and Art & Design (A). In addition, she also studied Italian as part of the enrichment programme. She is taking a course in Web design at Teesside University.

Lewis studied Religious Studies (B), History (A), English Literature (A) and AS Critical Thinking (C). He also took an Advanced Extension Award in History and was an active member of the student council. Lewis is studying History, Philosophy and Politics at Newcastle University.

David Marney joined college from Our Lady and St Bede School.

He studied Government & Politics (A), Economics (A), English Literature (A) and AS Critical Thinking (A). He was chair of the student council and a student governor and took part in the trip to Washington DC. He is studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the University of York.

Abigail Raine and Carly Woods joined us from Blakeston School

Abigail studied Applied Business Studies double award (A/B) and Psychology (D). She also took the Introductory Certificate in Marketing as part of the enrichment programme. She is studying Business Management at Teesside University.

Carly studied Psychology (A), Sociology (B) and Health & Social Care (B). She hopes to become a teacher and is studying Psychology at Teesside University.

Jess Bancroft came to college from Ian Ramsey School, and Oliver Shannon joined us from Egglescliffe School. They both studied the BTEC Sport and Exercise Science course.

Jess has also studied AS Dance (B) and played in the college netball team. She plays cricket and 5-a-side football and was always ready to volunteer for any placements or activities. She is studying Coaching Science at Teesside University.

Oliver has also studied AS Psychology (A) and AS Critical Thinking (B). With the outstanding academic achievement of distinctions in all BTEC units, Oliver is studying Sports Science at Bath University.
