The college pass rate of 98% for advanced level courses was once again above the national average and 24 subjects achieved 100% pass rate. Some of our students' achievements are highlighted below.

Jamie Durent, Sean Watson and Dannielle Young all came to college from All Saints School.
Jamie studied English Language (B), Law (B), Media Studies (B), and Politics (B) and took part in the Politics trip to Washington. He is now studying Media, Communications and Cultural Studies at Newcastle University. Sean studied Maths (A), Computing (A), and Geography (B) and also visited America on the college’s trip to New York. He has gone on to study Computer Science at the University of Leeds. While Dannielle was a student at college she represented her tutor group on the student council and took part in trips to Blackpool Pleasure Beach, York Railway Museum and Beamish Museum. Her subjects were Business Studies (B), Travel and Tourism (B), and History (C) and she is now at Teesside University studying Business Studies.

James Aberdeen and Robyn Million were both students at Bishopsgarth School before joining us.
James studied Biology (B), Physics (B), Maths (A) and AS-level Critical Thinking and took part in fieldwork visits to Robin Hood’s Bay and the Black Sheep Brewery. He has gone on to study Physics at Durham University. Robyn studied Psychology (E), Maths (D) and Applied ICT (C) and visited Disneyland Paris with the ICT department. She is now at Teesside University studying Psychology.

Lauren Chisem and Hayley Place were former students of Blakeston School and both girls are now pursuing Business degrees at university. Lauren studied double award Applied Business Studies (BC) and Maths (C) before going on to Teesside University to study Business Management. Hayley studied double award Applied Business Studies (BC) and Travel and Tourism (C) and is now at Northumbria University studying Business and Marketing.

Michael Scott, Scott Burns, Charlotte Walker and Robert Lofthouse joined us from Grangefield School.
Michael studied Psychology (B), Sociology (B), Biology (C) and AS-level Critical Thinking and is continuing his study of Psychology at Northumbria University. Scott was interested in modern languages so opted for French (A), German (B) and Spanish (B). This talented linguist entered the college ‘stars in their eyes’ competition and took part in exchange visits abroad to all three countries before going on to study Italian and Spanish at University. Charlotte studied Psychology (B), Law (A) and French (D) and added GCSE Italian as an enrichment activity. She enjoyed a trip to Euro Disney as part of her studies and is now at Newcastle University studying Psychology. Rob studied Maths (C), Art (A) and Graphic Design (C) and is continuing his education at Northumbria University where he hopes that his degree in Architecture will lead on to a successful career in this area.

Paul Mayes, Bethany Millican, Kara Hatton and Alysha Sturgiss were all former students of Grangefield School.
Paul studied Sociology (C), single award Applied ICT (C), Psychology (D) and AS-level Critical Thinking. He is continuing his study of Psychology at Teesside University. Bethany studied Psychology (C), Media Studies (B) and English Language (C) and was also an English Language mentor to a first year student. She wrote articles for the college newspaper and hopes to become a Journalist when she completes her degree in Media Studies at the University of East London. Kara’ssubjects at college were Media Studies (B), Business Studies (B), ICT (B) and AS-Level Critical Thinking. She visited Euro Disney as part of her ICT course and is now at Teesside University studying Marketing. Alysha has been involved with the Animal Welfare Group at college and trips to the theatre, Beamish and Durham University have complemented her studies in Media (B), English Literature (C) and History (B). She has gone on to Sunderland University and a joint honours degree in History and Media.

Thomas Abel, James Bruce, Matthew Thomas and Rhiannon Morgan all came to us from Ian Ramsey School.
Thomas enjoyed a visit to Disneyland Paris as part of his course in Applied ICT (A) and also studied Maths (C), Media Studies (A) and Business Studies (A). He has gone on to Newcastle University to study Accounting and Finance. James studied A-levels in Media (C), Health and Social Care (E) and AS Applied ICT (C) and took part in the visit to London as part of his Media Studies course. Matthew is now at Newcastle University studying Economics. Whilst at College he enjoyed at trip to Disneyland in Paris while studying Applied ICT (B), Business Studies (B), Maths (C) and Economics (C). Rhiannon’s love is Maths and while at college she was a Maths Mentor for first year students. Naturally, after completing her studies in Maths (B), Further Maths (A), ICT (B) and Law (A) she has progressed to Northumbria University to continue her studies in Maths.

Jacob Graham, Paula Heath, Sarah Stainsby and Joshua Mitchell joined us from Ian Ramsey School.
Jacob enjoyed a trip to the lake district as part of his Geology course and also played 5-a-side football at college. His career aim is to become a Chartered Civil Engineer and after completing his A-levels in Geology (B), Chemistry (D), Maths (B) and Further Maths (C) he has gone on to Teesside University to study Civil Engineering. Paula has been a very active member of the college community taking part in the ‘Stars in their Eyes’ competition and organising charity fundraising events. She plans to put her studies in Art & Design (A) and double Health and Social Care (AB) to good use after completing her Child Nursing Degree at Teesside University, as she hopes to work in countries deprived of medical help and technology. Sarah enjoyed Creative Writing as an enrichment activity taken alongside her A-levels in English Literature (B), History (A), Psychology (A) and AS-level Critical Thinking (A). She is now at Edinburgh University studying History and English. Like Jacob, Joshua has also gone on to study Civil Engineering at University. His subjects at college were Economics (B), Mathematics (B) and Physics (D) and he was involved in various college activities being the Rugby Team Captain, a Maths Mentor and a representative on the Student Council.

Sara Leighton and Chris Thompson came to us from Northfield School.
Sara has gone on to Sunderland University where she is completing a BA course in Primary Education. Her subjects at college were Religious Studies (B), English Language (C) and Psychology (C).
Chris studied Mathematics (C), Art & Design (A) and Design Technology (C) and took part in the Art Department’s trip to New York as well as being a member of the Young Enterprise group. He is now at Cleveland College of Art and Design.

Ali Ahmad completed a GCSE re-sit course at college before moving on to A-level studies in Applied ICT (C), double award Applied Business Studies (CD) and Maths (C). He enjoyed playing basketball at college and unravelling the mysteries of the Rubik’s cube and has now progressed to Northumbria University to study Business Information Technology.

Emma Dixon, David Edwards, and Christina Pacitto all attended Our Lady and St Bede School before coming to college.
Emma studied Geography (B), Sport and Physical Education (A) and Biology (C), played on the College Netball Team and took part in the Leonardo Project which involved working in a hotel in Spain. She is now at Sheffield University studying Human Geography. David took Geology (A), Physics (A), Biology (A) and Chemistry (A) at A-level and did a superb job when he came 4th while representing the college in the Schools Analyst Chemistry Competition National Final. He also took part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme before going on to university in Leicester to study Geology. Christina studied French (A), Maths (B), Geography (A) and Geology (B) and is continuing her study of modern languages at Durham University. She took part in the French Exchange programme while at college and was also a Maths Mentor. All three students visited New York as part of their studies and Emma and Christina also went to Chamonix.

Stephen McKenna, Lucy Jones, Janet Johnston and James Bennett joined us from Our Lady and St Bede School and have all taken an active part in college life. Stephen studied English Literature (B), History (A), Politics (A) and AS-level Critical Thinking and after taking part in the Politics department trip to Washington DC he hopes to study and work in America after completing his degree in History and International Relations at the University of London. Lucy took part in the Lessons from Auschwitz project and following the visit to Auschwitz gave a presentation of the experience to secondary school students. She also took part in the college play and was involved with the college newspaper. After completing her A-levels in English Literature (A), History (A) and Drama and Theatre Studies (A) she has gone on to Newcastle University to study English Literature. She hopes eventually to pursue a career in acting. James also took part in the college play and sees his future in the film and television industry. He studied English Language (A), Philosophy (B), and Psychology (A) and is now at the University of East Anglia studying Scriptwriting and Performance. Janet studied French (A), Maths (A), Biology (A) and Chemistry (A) and in addition to being a mentor, took part in the Chemistry Competition, Biological Olympiad and the French Exchange Programme. She is now studying Medicine at Newcastle University.

Rachel Filby, Katie Land, Emma Barker, Aoife Hennessy, Eden Uttley and Carmen Slevin all came to college from St Michael’s school. Rachel studied Mathematics (B), English Literature (B) and History (B) and visited Auschwitz through the Lessons from Auschwitz project. She was also a Maths mentor and was involved in the college newspaper before going on to the University of Leeds to study History. Katie has also gone to the University of Leeds and is now studying Law after gaining success in the subject at college. In addition to Law (A) she also studied Sociology (B) Theatre Studies and Drama (B) at A-level and AS-level Critical Thinking. Emma is also studying Law at University having completed A-levels in Law (A), Business Studies (C) and Sociology (B). She is also a talented dancer and took part in the college dance show and the dance trip to Portugal. Aoife has chosen the University of Liverpool to continue her study of Law. She took part in the French exchange programme at college and took A-levels in French (B), History (B) and Law (A) as well as AS-level Critical Thinking. Eden studied Travel and Tourism (B), Applied Business Studies (C) and Media Studies (C) and after taking part in the Leonardo Project has gone on to Leeds Metropolitan University to study International Tourism Management. Carmen is another talented dancer who took part in the college dance show and is hoping for a future career in this area after she completes the BA Honours Degree in Dance at Sunderland University. Her subjects at college were Dance (C), Applied Business Studies (C), Sport Studies (C) and English Language (D).

Zoe Smith, Tamara Crawford, Niall Mannion and Chris Latham were all former students of St Patrick’s School.
Zoe played for the college netball team and took part in trips to New York and Chamonix as well as the Leonardo Project. She studied Chemistry (D), Maths (C), Geography (A), Psychology (A) and AS-level Critical Thinking at college and is now studying Chemistry at Manchester University. Tamara’s subjects were Religious Studies (C), History (C), Sociology (B) and AS-level Critical Thinking. She is hoping to become a History teacher so is continuing her study of History at York St. John University. Niall and Chris both played hockey for the college and Niall also took part in golf competitions. Niall studied Maths (B), Chemistry (B) and Business (C) and has gone on to study Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Leeds. Chris is now studying Business Systems Design at Teesside University and hopes to become a business analyst. His subjects at college were Business (C), Computing (E) and Design Technology (E).

Rebecca Wise, Stephanie King and James Elford came to us from Thornaby Community School.
After completing her A-Levels in Sociology (B) and double award Health and Social Care (BB) Becky has moved on to York University to study Adult Nursing. Stephanie studied Sociology (B), Psychology (B) and English Language (B) and is taking a year out before continuing her education. James studied ICT (C) and double award Applied Business Studies (BB) and is now on a work-based course, training to become a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.

Yutao Chen, Chu Han Huang and Jiaji Zou chose to study at Stockton Sixth Form College as International students.
Yutao studied Maths (A), Further Maths (A), Physics (A) and Business Studies (B) and is now at the University of Warwick. Chu Han, known to us as Angel, chose to stay in the area after completing her A-levels in Art & Design (B), Design Technology (D) and Maths (B) and has gone on to Teesside University to study Graphic Design Illustration. Jiaji has moved to the big city and the Royal Holloway University of London. He took Maths (A), Further Maths (D) and Design Technology (E) at college and is now studying Media Arts.

Edward Kitchen is a very talented dancer and plans to become a professional dancer and choreographer. He studied Art and Design (A), Dance (B), English Literature (C) and Maths (C) at college and took part in the dance trip to Portugal. In addition to taking part in college dance shows, he also choreographed numerous pieces and is now at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance studying for a BA (Honours) Degree in Ballet and Contemporary Dance.

Faith Jones studied Mathematics (A), English Literature (B) and Theatre Studies (B) in addition to taking part in two college plays and two French exchange visits. She is a talented actress and after completing her degree in English Literature at Edinburgh University, plans to become a theatre-based actress.
