2011 Leavers

Our 2011 A-level pass rate was a fantastic 98.7% with 29 subjects achieving 100%. You can read about some of our students' achievements below.

Claudia Dent and Joshua Hollis both came to College from All Saints School.

Claudia studied English Literature (B), Psychology (B), and Politics (B), while Joshua studied English Language (A), History (A) and Politics (B). Both students decided to enrich their programme of study by adding Extended Project and AS level Critical Thinking, and they also both enjoyed the trip to Washington DC as part of their Politics course – a trip which made the headlines with the caption ‘I survived snowmageddon’, because the group were ‘snowed in’. During their time at College, Claudia worked on the College newspaper and Joshua played Football for the College’s ‘C’ team. While Claudia has gone on to Leeds University to study Communications with the aim of progressing to a career within PR, Joshua’s ambition is to find work which involves writing, possibly in the media, and would love it to be in the USA. He is studying Journalism at the University of Sunderland.

Manwah Siu, Robert Bailey and Emma Foxton were students at Grangefield School before joining College.

During his time at College, Manwah studied English Literature (B), Theatre Studies (C), Politics (C) and Media Studies (B). He also went on trips to London and Washington DC and wrote and directed a play. He is continuing his love of English and Drama at university. Robert also took part in the trip to Washington DC and is now studying Town Planning at Newcastle University. His subjects at College were Applied Business Studies (A), Applied ICT (A) and Government & Politics (B). Emma is a competent linguist and studied French (A), Spanish (C), English Language (B); AS level Critical Thinking and GCSE Italian. She took part in exchange visits to both France and Spain and is continuing her study of languages in interpreting and translating at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.

Helen Muir, Joe Hall and Oliver Hartley all came to us from Grangefield School.

Helen studied ICT Applied Double Award (A*/A) and Design and Technology (D) and has moved on to the University of Cumbria to study Applied Computing, hoping to become an ICT technician, possibly in the RAF. Joe is now at Newcastle University studying Mathematics having successfully completed A-levels in Maths (A), Further Maths (A), Computing (A), Physics (A ) and AS level Critical Thinking. Whilst at College he took part in the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge and University Challenge. Oliver also studied Maths (A*), and Further Maths (A) at College together with Chemistry (C) and Physics (A). He has gone on to Christ Church College, Oxford to continue his study of Mathematics.

Kathryn Holliday, Tom Mankin, Megan Finegan and Cynthia Iravoga joined us from St Patrick’s School.

Kathryn studied ICT (A), Dance (C), and English Language (B) at A-level. During her time at College, she took part in the trip to Disneyland Paris with ICT and performed in dance shows. Her ambition is to become an ICT technician or a computer scientist working with the Police and has progressed to Teesside University to Study Computer Science. Tom has gone on to Northumbria University to continue his study of History. He visited New York as part of this course and enjoyed helping out in Media on Open Evenings. Alongside History (B) and Media (A), Tom also studies Philosophy (C) and AS-level Critical Thinking. Megan is now studying Psychology and Education Studies at Teesside University and is hoping to be able to spend some time studying in France with the aim of eventually working within international relations. She enjoyed a trip to Aix-en-Provence as part of her A-level French (B) course and also studied Psychology (A), Business Studies (A), AS-level Critical Thinking and GCSE Italian. Cynthia’s ultimate aim is to study medicine so is currently studying Biomedical Sciences at university. Her subjects were Art & Design (B), Maths (C), Chemistry (B), Biology (B) and AS level Critical Thinking.

Hannah King and Catherine Pillar were students at Thornaby Academy before joining the College.

Hannah hopes eventually to become a qualified accountant and with this in mind, she studied Applied Business double award (B/B) and Sociology (D) at College. She has moved on to Northumbria University and a degree in Business and Finance. Catherine also chose Northumbria University to continue her studies taking Applied Biology with the aim of becoming a Science Teacher. She took part in a Science research day at Arc in Stockton as part of her course in Applied Science (C) also studying Sociology (D) and Health & Social Care (D).

                                   Tanvir Babul from Egglescliffe School, Navid Ebadi who came from Iran, Charlotte Stapleton from Conyers School and Sam McMaster from Red House all say how much they enjoyed their time at Stockton Sixth Form College.

Tanvir studied Applied ICT Double Award (A/B), Business Studies (B) and Design Technology (D) and hopes to become a Software Developer. He is now studying Software Engineering at Manchester Metropolitan University. Navid is also studying in Manchester but with a career aim of working in the Automotive Engineering industry he is studying Mechanical Engineering. He was a Maths Mentor at College studying both Maths (A*) and Further Maths (A) alongside Physics (A) and Chemistry (A). Charlotte was also a Maths Mentor. She studied Maths (C), History (A), English Literature (A*) and Philosophy (A) and has gone on to Northumbria University to study Law with the ambition of becoming a Solicitor or Barrister. Sam is a keen scientist so enjoyed the Biology trip to the Life Centre, and having completed A-levels in Physics (B), Chemistry (A), Biology (C) and Maths (B) he is now studying Physics with Astrophysics at Leeds University.

Clare Walker, Rebecca Saunders, Abigail Johnson and Richard Barnes were former students of St. Michael’s School.

Clare took part in the French Exchange trip to Aix-en-Provence during her first year at College and has gone on to Sheffield University to continue her study of French, aiming for a career in translation or teaching. In addition to studying French (A) at College, she also took English Language (B) and Psychology (C). During Rebecca’s 2 years with us she studied History (A), Economics (B), French (B) and AS-level Critical Thinking, took part in the ProShare competition and was involved in the History Society. With a keen interest in History, Rebecca is continuing her study of this at Teesside University and hopes to eventually progress to a career in the museum service. Abigail also studied History (A) alongside Psychology (A), English Language (B) and AS-level Critical Thinking, taking part in the lessons from Auschwitz Project and the History Society. She is now studying Law at Newcastle University. Richard plans to become a palaeontologist and work at the natural history museum, so having studied Geology (C), Maths (B ) and Geography (B ) he has progressed to Leeds University to study Geological Sciences.

Victoria Cepa and Daniel Mann were students at Bishopsgarth School before joining College.

Victoria was a Maths mentor at College and also went to the Global Agendas Conference in Hull and on the Business trip to the Coca Cola production factory in Wakefield. Having studied Accounting (A), Business Studies (A) and Maths (B) at College, she is now pursuing a career in accounting. While Daniel was at College he took part in the trip to Disneyland, Paris. He is now at Lancaster University studying General Engineering having completed his A-levels in Business Studies (C), Maths (A), and Physics (B) alongside AS-level Further Maths (A).

Abigail Henry, Elizabeth Mandiville, Matthew Barron and Paul Morris previously attended Our Lady & St Bede School.

Abigail studied English Literature (A), English Language (A) and Psychology (A) and is continuing her study of English at Durham University. Elizabeth studied Maths (A*), Further Maths (A), Psychology B and Sociology (A) at College and made the most of opportunities available to her by being a Maths Mentor and taking part in the Maths Challenge. As her career aim is to become a Maths teacher, she is now studying for a degree in Maths at Newcastle University. Matthew also chose to continue his education at Newcastle University where he is studying Mechanical Engineering. While he was at College he took part in the French Exchange and was a member of the rugby team. His subjects were Physics (C), Maths (B) and French (A) at A-level and Further Maths at AS-level (B). Paul was one of only three students to take part in the Chemistry Analysts Competition during his first year at College. Alongside Chemistry (A*), he studied Maths (A*), Physics (A*) and AS-level Further Maths (A) with us before starting his degree in Physics with Astrophysics at Durham University.

Nathan Capstick, Rebecca Rowland and Lubna Kudsia came to us from Ian Ramsey School.

Having studied English Literature (A), English Language (A), and Religious Studies (A*) at College, Nathan is now at the University of Leeds pursuing a degree in English. He enjoyed the Creative Writing enrichment activity while he was a student with us and also went on the London trip. Rebecca also took part in the London trip and, like Nathan, she has gone on to Leeds University. Her degree choice is Psychology and she is hoping to study abroad for a year as part of this course. Her subjects at College were Law (A), Media (A*), Psychology (A) and English Language (B). Lubna is now at Durham University, also studying Psychology. While she was at College she was a Mentor for both Religious Studies and Maths and her subjects were Psychology (A), Maths (A), Religious Studies (A*) and AS level Critical Thinking.

Louise Kerr, Lucy Smith and William Hazelton were former students of Ian Ramsey School.

Louise enjoyed a foreign exchange trip to Germany while she was at College where she studied German (A), English Language (B) and Media Studies (A) before going on to Leeds University to start a degree course in German and Management. Lucy studied Biology (A*), Chemistry (A*), Maths (A*), English Literature (A*), AS-level Critical Thinking and GCSE Italian and hopes eventually to become a research scientist. While at College she got a bronze medal in the British Biology Olympiad, was on the team that took part in the Royal Society of Chemists Schools Analyst Competition and also took part in the Research Project at Durham University, where she is now studying Biomedical Science. William’s claim to fame is that he had his legs waxed while at College to raise money for Children in Need, but he also enjoyed studying History (A), English Literature (A*) and French (C) before going on to The University of Birmingham to study Ancient History.

Samantha Bowell from Northfield School and Hannah Mannion from St. Patrick’s both studied Sport at College.

Samantha studied A-levels, taking Sport Studies (C) alongside English Language (C) and Sociology (C), and she is proud to have been a member of the Netball team which won the league. With a career aim of Social Work in mind, Samantha chose to continue her education by taking a degree course in Childhood and Disability Studies at Northumbria University. When Hannah joined the College she chose our BTEC Sports Studies course and enjoyed playing both hockey and golf. She hopes to become a Teacher of Sport and has gone on to Teesside University where she is studying Applied Sport and Exercise Science.

Somkit Jefferies, Jason Lonsdale and Jenna McDonald joined the College from Northshore Academy.

Somkit took advantage of the sporting opportunities available at College and joined both the basketball and football teams. He studied ICT (C), Maths (B) and Business Studies (A) before going on to the University of Leeds to study Economics and Maths. Jason’s subjects were Sociology (A), Psychology (C) and Health & Social Care (C) and he took part in various College trips and a Sociology talk at Durham University. He would like to find work which involves Sociology, the subject he is continuing to study at Teesside University. Jenna also enjoyed trips organised by the College. She visited New York and went on a six-week work placement to Spain. After completing her studies in Health and Social Care double award (D/E) and Travel and Tourism double award (B/C) she has gone on to Leeds Metropolitan University to study International Tourism Management.

Liam Smith, Leon Donnelly and Amy Adams all joined the College from Northshore Academy.

Liam studied Maths (A*), Further Maths (B) and Physics (D) at College and took part in the University Challenge competition. He was also a mentor in Maths, the subject he has chosen to continue studying at Newcastle University. Leon’s choice of degree is European Law which he is studying at the University of Warwick. As this involves the study of both Law and the French language, he plans to live in France for a year as part of the course, and hopes eventually to become a Commercial lawyer, possibly working in France. His subjects at College were Maths (A), Chemistry (B), French (A) and AS-level Critical Thinking and he also took GCSE Italian as an enrichment activity. Amy is now studying Law and the Environment at Northumbria University having completed her A-levels in Law (B), English Literature (B), Geography (A) and the AS-level in Critical Thinking.

Emily Hook joined the College from Yarm School and grew in confidence while she was a student here studying Dance (B), Art (B) and Maths (B). She is an exceptionally talented dancer and has gone on to take up the place she won at the Royal Academy of Dance, in London, where, having impressed the admissions panel through interviews and demonstrations of her technique and teaching ability, she will complete a degree in Dance Education.
