governors

The College is an autonomous institution, financed directly by central government through the Learning & Skills Council (LSC). The governing body of the college (“the Corporation”) comprises 20 members, the majority of whom have close ties with the College as parents, students or employees.

The governors are responsible at a strategic level for determining the educational character of the College and for overseeing its activities, including the effective and efficient use of its resources, and setting the annual budget.  Membership of the Corporation involves a commitment to attend approximately 5 governors’ meetings per year (usually Monday evenings), with the possibility of a similar number of committee meetings depending on a member’s particular areas of interest. In return, a member has the opportunity to keep in close contact with the affairs of the college and to play a leading role in maintaining and extending the provision of high quality sixth form education in Stockton.

We are always pleased to hear from anyone interested in joining the Corporation. Vacancies arise occasionally and we keep a register of potential members.

The governors have established a mentoring system for new members and, in addition, you could expect to receive as much support as you need in terms of background information and training.
