personal tutors

All students have a personal tutor from day one.

The role of a personal tutor is to look after your interests – whether related to your studies or any other aspect of your life. They are there to provide support and advice, ensure that you are progressing with your studies, and help out in any crisis through one-to-one support.

You will meet your tutor every week as part of a Tutor Group. During these group sessions you will follow an active programme which aims to help and support your studies and prepare you for progression onto University or employment.

You will also meet individually with your tutor from time to time. The aim of these one-to-one sessions will be to discuss your academic progress and to agree achievable targets.

Most of our students go on to Higher Education, and your tutor will be on hand to guide you through this process. All Advanced students are given a programme of tutorial activities and individual advice on higher education. This helps you to prepare UCAS applications thoroughly and to maximise your chance of success. Students find this individual support extremely valuable.   If you choose to enter employment at the end of your course here, specialist careers advice from Connexions is available.

We will keep your parents informed about your progress through regular reports, and tutors are an important point of contact for your parents.   Research has shown that students with high attendance achieve the best results. Tutors will work with you, and your parents if necessary, to ensure that you maintain full attendance.
