College unveils social area refurbishment

Students started their new term in style after a £250,000 refurbishment to their common room and dining area.

Both new and returning students will now benefit from a light and spacious eating area, modern communal environment and innovative break-out spaces which can be used for revision or quiet study.

Live news, college notices and RSS feeds will be fed into the social area through 55inch flat screen TVs, and the space will continue to have full wi-fi connectivity.

The renovation follows on from the college’s £4.5m overhaul of teaching and support facilities, including a new Learning Resource Centre, state-of-the-art Science laboratories, a contemporary Art and Design studio, innovative Media and Film facilities and new areas for pastoral care and careers guidance.

Joanna Bailey, Principal at Stockton Sixth Form College, said: “We pride ourselves on providing students with fantastic teaching and learning facilities, but it’s also important for students to have a comfortable area where they can relax and study outside of lessons.

“The college’s Student Council had a huge say in the refurbishment plans and we are extremely pleased with the finished product.”

The project was completed throughout the college’s summer break, ensuring no disruption to students’ term-time teaching.
