Meeting for Parents 22nd September 2016

Meeting for Parents of New Students – Thursday 22nd September, 6.00 – 7.00 pm

As part of helping your son/daughter settle into the College’s routine we welcome the opportunity to meet with you and explain our Student Support Scheme. This includes our procedures for the systematic review of students’ progress, the provision of guidance and reporting to parents.

On 22nd September you will have the opportunity of meeting with your son/daughter’s Progress Leader and Progress Tutor who will begin the meeting with a brief presentation at 6.00pm and will discuss any questions you may have about the College’s support systems.

The meeting is not intended to provide any subject-specific information at this stage – there will be Parents’ Evenings later in the year when progress and performance on courses can be discussed with subject teachers. It is not appropriate for your son/daughter to attend this particular meeting, although they are encouraged to accompany you to the future subject consultation evenings if you wish.

I hope that you will be able to attend this meeting. Please try to ensure that you know the name of your son/daughter’s tutor to help us direct you to the appropriate room.

Attendance and Punctuality

Please find enclosed a copy of our Attendance and Punctuality leaflet which explains the importance of attendance and how to authorise genuine absence. We are keen to work together with parents to promote good attendance and as such will inform you via a text message of any unauthorised absence. We will of course deal sensitively where we know that significant absence is a result of a chronic illness or extenuating circumstance. Please keep open dialogue with your son/daughters Progress Tutor if this is the case.

Use of Images of Students at Stockton Sixth Form College

We take photographs of students at our college. The images may be used in our college prospectus or in other printed publications that we produce, as well as on our website, college social media or on display boards. From time to time we may also make video or webcam recordings for conferences, meetings, monitoring or other educational use. The images may be stored and retained on conventional film, computer or disc.

We also welcome visits from the media who will take photographs or film footage of a special visitor or other high profile event. We frequently like to recognise and celebrate the achievements of individual students or groups of students by inviting a photographer from the media to take a picture for various publications. These may be local or national newspapers and magazines or televised programmes.

To comply with the Data Protection Act 1998 we require permission for your son/daughter to be photographed or videoed and the image made public, both during their time in college and afterwards. If you would like to discuss any of the points raised, please contact me by telephone, letter or e-mail.

If you do not wish to give your permission, please notify us in writing.

Many thanks for your co-operation with these matters. We look forward to working together to support your son/daughters success at Stockton Sixth Form College.
