Stockton goes to CERN

Physics students from Stockton Sixth Form and Grangefield Academy recently visited CERN in Geneva, the European Centre for Nuclear Research.

The trip was partly funded by The Ogden Trust, a charity which promotes physics education across the country.

These students had a guided tour of several of CERN’s facilities including the impressive data centre and the dark matter laboratory where cutting edge experiments take place on a daily basis. They were given, during the visit, a rare chance to see what physicists, computer scientists and engineers who work in this field do for a living.

Not only will it support their physics studies but trips like these inspire students to follow careers in science and engineering and, as a bonus, while there we had the chance to explore Geneva, one of Europe’s most beautiful cities.
