Students spend summer in Portugal

Ten second year students at Stockton Sixth Form College are spending their summer completing exciting work experience opportunities in Portugal.

The group of students will travel to Lisbon in July to gain first-hand experience of working life in Portuguese industries such as hospitality, law, business and sport.

Each student will spend an entire month working and living in Lisbon, the students received Portuguese lessons at the college in preparation.

The Internship was available to all second year students so this is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable work experience. Those lucky students were; Ashley Parker, Hajira Hussain (Ex-Grangefield Academy pupil), Luke Honeyman (Ex-Grangefield Academy pupil), Courtney Bremner (Ex-Egglescliffe School pupil), Jake Ollet (Ex-Grangefield Academy pupil), Rabhia Abdallah (Ex-Grangefield Academy pupil), Naheedah Begum (Ex-Grangefield Academy pupil), Aroosa Arshad (Ex-Grangefield Academy pupil), Robbie Lawson (Ex-Grangefield Academy pupil) & Ben Laver (Ex-St Michaels pupil).

The initiative is funded by the Erasmus+ programme, which offers unique opportunities for young people to experience exchange projects across the continent.

Alexis Jackson, teacher at Stockton Sixth Form College said: “This is an amazing opportunity for our students to gain valuable experience working and living abroad.

“The college’s Eramus+ programme gives Stockton Sixth Form students the edge in securing a future career in their chosen industry because it allows them to gain substantial work experience abroad with the support of a specialist member of staff.

“We are committed to expanding opportunities which enable our students to put their studies to the test and work independently both at home and abroad.”

Stockton Sixth Form College participates in a number of exciting and unique European projects throughout each academic year, enabling students to travel across the continent taking part in joint events with partner schools and colleges in neighbouring countries completely free of charge.
