Students visit CERN

Year 2 Physics students from Stockton Sixth Form College were lucky enough to visit CERN in beautiful Geneva. We were joined by a group from our neighbouring school The Grangefield Academy.

Every few years the Large Hadron Collider is on shut down for maintenance; during this time visitors can see the enormous detectors used to find evidence of fundamental particles. Our group travelled 100m underground and saw the Compact Muon Detector up close.

Many of our students will go on to do Science, Computing and Engineering degrees and this trip is a rare chance to see how people in these fields work at the cutting edge of technology. As well as that visiting Geneva in lovely September sunshine was a treat.
