Foundation Studies

Foundation Studies

The Foundation Studies faculty at Stockton Sixth Form College provides a fully inclusive, stimulating and structured environment in which students are prepared with a wide range of opportunities and experiences to prepare them for next steps. Whether you have just missed out on your GCSE grades or need additional support to help you reach your goals, we have a programme for you.

On each programme you will study:

  • Vocational or academic option
  • English
  • Maths
  • Personal skills and employability

Our optional subjects are currently Health and Social Care and Humanities but these choices can vary depending on the needs and interests of our students.

You will have the opportunity to resit your GCSEs in English Language and Maths, if necessary, or work towards Functional Skills qualifications.  You will also work towards a qualification in employability skills and be given support to find an appropriate work placement or work experience.

You will learn in a secure, calm and encouraging environment. Class sizes are small and staff are focussed on helping you to remain motivated so that you meet your goals.

We offer enhanced support throughout your time with us. This starts from the moment you enquire about our programme. Transition support includes individual tours of the college, classroom visits and the chance to meet key staff before you start. There are high levels of learning support in all lessons and one to one support available if you require it. There is also a strong focus on progression throughout the programme, and enhanced careers support ensures you get the right advice to make informed decisions about your future.
