Stockton Sixth Football Academy offers you the chance to develop your footballing talent whilst gaining further academic qualifications.
In a collaboration between Stockton Sixth Form College and Stockton Town Football Club, you’ll be coached by experts, train with professionals, receive expert support from nutritionists and physiotherapists. Alongside this you will study for the qualifications you need, enabling you to progress to a career in football or at university.
This programme takes place over 4 days per week. 50% of the time is football related: playing, training, nutrition, physiotherapy, sports psychology and staying injury free.
50% of the time is studies: 2 or 3 A Level courses. We also have courses in GCSE English and Maths if needed as well as expert careers guidance for employment or university.
As part of the academy players will be able to train exclusively on our £1M 3G facility 3 times a week under the guidance of our expert coaching staff.
Our coaches are extremely experienced across all levels of the game and are UEFA qualified to ensure the sessions are of maximum quality, with our head of coaching being a former employee of The FA.
These sessions will be designed to improve not only the team shape and cohesion but also aimed at improving each individual to allow them to fulfil their potential and become the best player they can. This individual approach to developing players alongside the focus on the team is perfect to help players in their next steps in football once leaving the college.
There are many avenues open to players once the course is completed, Stockton Town or similar non-league Clubs, University football coupled with playing non-league football within the National Pyramid, Scholarship football in the USA, but we are sure that each player will be the best prepared they can be to enter any team environment elsewhere or at Stockton Town FC.
Strength and Conditioning
Our players will have access to a bespoke strength and conditioning program designed for each player to maximise their ability and to meet the physical demands required to play as part of the academy.
Teesside University will be providing the support on this aspect of the course and will be delivering strength and conditioning sessions throughout the year, with guidance for players on how they should be looking after themselves away from the game to maintain an appropriate physical condition.
Players will be tested throughout the year to keep track of their physical capabilities and to base their training and work load with this information factored in. These strength and conditioning sessions may take place on the pitch or in a controlled environment, but are separate sessions to the specific football training players will be enjoying and is an extra facet for our academy players.
In order to provide our players with the best support they can receive we have a physiotherapy program attached to the academy to ensure the team is training and playing to their maximum physical capacity.
Players will visit their individual physio once a week with a focus on injury prevention and will also have access to receive treatment on any injuries they may have. This is in association with Teesside University and the players will be visiting the University’s 3rd year physiotherapy students regularly to provide this service.
In addition to this the University will provide access to a friends and family discount from their professional physiotherapy and sports injuries clinics, for any players within Stockton Sixth Football Academy, which heavily reduces the price of the expert physio service they provide.
The Academy will be using a Match Analysis system that will provide the Academy management with the information required to review both team and individual performance.
Games will be filmed to analyse performance from a tactical perspective, this will help the Academy Managers to better prepare coaching sessions and tailor them to the needs of the team and individuals. All players will wear GPS units, which will provide the coaching team with all physical data from players during a match and this will be used to build a clear picture of the game and allow the head coach to highlight key areas of improvement in both the team and individuals. This will allow the coaching program to be developed alongside the correct strength and conditioning work in the training sessions to improve overall performance.
Stockton Town FC
The Academy will be delivered jointly between both the Stockton Sixth Form College and Stockton Town FC and will give players a great opportunity to continue their education alongside their footballing careers.
Although there is no requirement to play for Stockton Town as part of the Academy, if players are strong enough and show a desire to do so they have a pathway into the Football Club across a multitude of areas. Players can enter into the very competitive Stockton Town U18s team that play in the County Durham U18’s Saturday League and also enter the FA Youth Cup, where opponents can be from professional clubs across the country. This is a stepping stone to the Clubs 1st team that currently competes at Step 5 of the National Pyramid in the Northern League 1st Division and also enter such prestigious competitions as the FA Cup and FA Vase.
With an amazing run in last season’s FA Vase competition Stockton Town reached the final playing at Wembley in front of a crowd of over 30,000 and the game broadcast live on BT Sport.
Stockton Town has a proven track record of developing players from their junior teams and giving them opportunities within their 1st team, evidence of this in the 70% of players in last season’s Wembley squad that had been through Stockton Towns youth system, which confirms the huge emphasis is placed on player development at the club. With the first team manager being keen on using players from within the club the Academy is therefore a great opportunity for any young footballers to enter the Stockton Town environment.
Finalist in the FA Vase, Stockton Town is a club that’s going places. With first rate facilities and coaching staff, coupled with excellent results and student satisfaction at Stockton Sixth Form College, you can be sure that joining Stockton Sixth Football Academy is a great career move.
