Stockton Sixth Form is pleased to welcome the Police Cadets to Tuesday evenings – Welcome to your new home!
The young volunteers aged between 13 and 17 – and their leaders will now be based at the college.
Seeing how valuable the Cadets are to the local community, officers in Stockton went above and beyond to find a new place to enable them to continue to deliver their work. The college is fully supportive of the scheme and with providing this base – it will also allow them to undertake physical training, receive classroom inputs and to have a consistent meeting place.
Cleveland Police’s Cadet Programme is an adventurous, informative and exciting opportunity for young people. Their activity directly benefits the community by conducting speed watch, litter picking, spending time with vulnerable or lonely people and supporting officers at events including Remembrance Sunday.
Chief Inspector Dan Heron, from Stockton’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, said “This is great news for Stockton and the cadets. I am very grateful to the college for supporting this key community resource. We will be working with the cadet more regularly to support the work my teams are doing across Stockton. Crucially, it provides a framework for young people to understand the local area and preparers them for their further education or indeed employment”
Mike Mackin, Head of Centre said ” We are please to welcome the police Cadets back to Stockton Sixth Form College and look forward to supporting them in their future endeavours. They play a pivotal role in the life of the local community, so it was good to finally meet the group on Tuesday evening and see them enjoying the facilities we have on site.
Cleveland Police’s Citizens in Policing Coordinator Kenny Clark said: ” This is really positive news, and I am very grateful for the support that the college has provided for the Cleveland Police Cadet programme, and we look forward to forging new relationships”

At Stockton Sixth Form we are thrilled to announce our best examination results since 2019 marking a significant milestone in the academic achievements of our students.
The college has seen an increase in high grade performance, particularly in the A* to B range, underscoring the dedication and hard work of both students and staff.
As the college community celebrates these results, it’s clear that the commitment to excellence in education continues to yield good outcomes. The percentage of students achieving top grades has not only increased but has done so across a variety of subjects, highlighting the growing strength of the college’s academic programs.
Exceptional Achievements Across the Board
Vocational subjects at Stockton Sixth Form College have continued to excel, with high grades being achieved in most subjects and pass rates climbing above national benchmarks. The robust performance of vocational programs illustrates the college’s commitment to providing diverse and inclusive educational opportunities.
The A-Level courses have particularly stood out this year, with significant improvements noted in subjects such as Economics, Philosophy and Ethics, Further Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, Fine Art, Business Studies, and History. These subjects have seen a rise in the number of students achieving the highest grades, showcasing the effectiveness of the college’s tailored approach to teaching and learning.
Success Beyond the Classroom
The success of Stockton students extends beyond academic achievements. Many graduates have secured places at prestigious universities, including those who applied to Cambridge and for demanding courses like Medicine, reflecting the high level of preparation and support they receive at the college. We have also once again secured success for students who have secured places on degree apprenticeships.
“We are immensely proud of all our students and the results they have achieved through their hard work and resilience,” said Michael Mackin, Head of Centre of Stockton Sixth Form College. “These results are a testament to the unwavering commitment of our staff and students, and they reflect our college’s dedication to fostering an environment of success and excellence.”
Looking Forward
Stockton Sixth Form College remains committed to building on these successes and continuing to provide exceptional educational experiences for young people from our community. As we look to the future, the college is dedicated to maintaining its high standards and supporting every student in achieving their full potential.

Students recently got the chance to visit the Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum in Skinningrove alongside students from Prior Pursglove College. Students learnt about the history of mining in the area, what the life of a miner would have been like over 100 years ago, and what it was like to live in the village. Students also got the chance to look around the village and compare photographs from 100 years ago to the present day.

Stockton Sixth Form College and Prior Pursglove students had a visit to FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies (FDB) at Billingham, as the first step of a new STEM Enrichment programme.
The students from both colleges who are currently studying Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Computer Science based subjects, are part of a new initiative that aims to educate our young people on future technologies and the employability skills which are required to secure their future careers.
Working with Professor Raymond Oliver, a college Governor, and the team at FDB, we were treated to a full day visit with talks, tours and a fun activity.
The students learned about the values of FDB and how these values are embedded into their day-to-day workings. FDB representatives spoke about their processes from initial conception with their customers to patents, quality checks, audit trails and ultimately manufacturing the products.

The students heard about microbial development, cell cultures and cell line development and got to explore several labs and observe the technology in use. This was not only fascinating, but helped the students appreciate the importance of the work that is undertaken locally on this expanding site and the wealth of opportunities that will be available to them in the future.
FUIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies recently invested £400m into expanding its Billingham site and currently employs more than 1000 staff. This expansion is expected to create another 350 highly-skilled jobs once complete and judging by the reactions of our students yesterday, we look forward to seeing how many of them have been inspired to join them.
Many thanks to the team at FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies for hosting a brilliant day.

Year 13 Student Eve, recently qualified for the English Schools’ Table Tennis Nationals, representing the college in the under 19s final in Wolverhampton. Eve played 5 matches and came third in her group. Well done Eve!
