Extended Certificate (4 units over 2 years)

Unit 1 – Human Lifespan Development (Exam)

Unit 2 – Working in Health and Social Care (Exam)

Unit 5 – Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs (Coursework)

Unit 14 – Physiological Disorders and their Care (Coursework)

Diploma (8 units over the 2 years) These include the extended certificate units and the additional units below

Unit 4 – Enquiries into current research in Health and Social Care (Controlled Assessment)

Unit 7 – Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care (Coursework)

Unit 8 – Promoting Public Health (Coursework)

Unit 19 – Nutritional Health (Coursework)

The BTEC Extended Certificate course is the equivalent of one A Level and the Diploma is the equivalent to two A Levels. The course is assessed in a variety of ways, including external exams, coursework and a controlled assessment.

What subjects go well with Health and Social Care?

Here at SSFC you have the opportunity to study a combination of three subjects (you can choose to study Health as 1 or 2 of your subject choices). We recommend taking Sociology, Psychology, Criminology or a science-based subject such as Biology or Applied Science. However, all our other subject offerings will complement Health and Social Care.

Entry requirements

Due to extended answer questions in exams and reports for coursework it is desirable that students are competent with literary based subjects and have a good understanding of written English.
