Why study Law?

A Level Law provides an introduction to law. It allows students to learn about a fascinating subject, one which covers many aspects of life. You will be able to develop an understanding of law and how it works. You will be able to appreciate society from a legal perspective. Additionally, you will learn about the interaction between law and morals, justice and society. The subject gives you a fundamental understanding of how laws are made, judged and enforced, as well as the roles of legal personnel.

Additionally, you will be able to apply your knowledge of different types of laws to fictional scenarios and determine whether someone is liable or what defences could be raised, such as self-defence or intoxication. These scenarios range from murder, breach of contract, from negligence to robbery. You will be enabled to suggest an appropriate sentence or compensation.

Students of law can apply these skills and knowledge to most other subjects, developing academic skills, including analysis and evaluation. Most importantly, be able to make an informed decision about future. careers.

Here at SSFC you have the opportunity to study a combination of three subjects. Law compliments History, Geography and RE, as well as being a very popular combination with Criminology and Sociology. Ultimately, law will help you write and communicate well.

Entry requirements

As law is an essay-based subject, we require you to have a grade 4 or above in English. You have to enjoy reading, since we will be making use of articles, books and the laws themselves, which can sometimes include challenging language.
