Stockton Sixth Form College is committed to helping students aim even higher. Our specially tailored programmes which stretch and challenge the most able across Years 12 and 13 are designed to inspire high-performing students to go on and achieve even greater success.

AT SSFC we provide mentors who are specialists in the fields of Scientific Research, Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Computer Science & Maths.

Nuffield Foundation Science Projects

Nuffield Foundation Science Bursaries offer up to 1000 bursariesa year for students to work alongside professional scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians. Projects take place during the summer holidays, giving students an insight into the world of scientific research.

BMAT & UCAT

University entrance tests are required for aspirational courses. We prepare students for these entrance exams from the beginning of Year 12.

Oxford University – OxNET

We are an OxNET Hub OxNet runs intensive courses, involving a mixture of Study Days, Seminar Series, Easter Conferences, Summer Schools and Twilight Talks.

The OxNet STEM programme draws on the world-class research and expertise of academics at the University of Oxford and our other partner institutions to provide participants with an insight into what it is like to study a STEM subject at undergraduate level.

Visit their website and complete the application and a written response between 750 and 100 words, deadline is 9am on the 9th of November.

Cambridge Master Classes

Subject Master Classes are subject-specific events that offer academically able students in Year 12 the chance to experience typical undergraduate teaching at the University of Cambridge, and to get a flavour of what it’s like to be a student there.

Each Masterclass includes:

  • Two taster lectures delivered by leading academic staff from the University
  • The opportunity to discuss and ask questions
  • An introduction to the Cambridge admissions process
  • The opportunity to hear about life as a Cambridge student from current undergraduates

Sutton Trust Summer Schools

These FREE five-day summer schools in July and August allow students to explore their interest in one of 23 subject courses and are available at Newcastle, Bristol, Cambridge, Durham, Imperial, Nottingham, UCL, Kings College London and St Andrews Priority will be given to students who meet all or most of the following criteria:

  • Will be the first generation in their family to attend university
  • Have achieved at least 5 A/A*s at GCSE
  • Come from neighbourhoods with low overall progression rates to higher education
  • Are taking relevant subjects in relation to the subject stream they are applying for
  • Attend schools or colleges with a low overall A Level (or equivalent) point score
  • Are under the age of 18 at the time of the summer school.

Work experience

Work experience in a caring or service role is now an essential step when getting into medical school. Medical schools will be looking for students who have gained a broad range of
